What we do

On a normal evening Pack night, The Cubs arrive and have a run-round. The Cubs are called to their Sixes around the circle and we have the Grand Howl. This involves the duty Sixer who steps forward, salutes and challenges the rest of the Pack "Cubs do your best" the Cubs respond "We WILL do our best". The Duty Sixer then breaks the flag, salutes the flag, all the Cubs then salute, and the Sixer returns to his/her place.

Sometimes we play a lively game then settle down to do some project or badge work. We then may have a 'wind down' game before the flag is taken down by the Second of the duty Six. We finish with notices handed out and Badges or Certificates awarded. The flag is taken down and the Pack dismissed by the duty Second. The Cubs are collected by their parents or guardians from inside the H.Q.

The last week of any month is normally a non-uniform Pack meeting and we have an evening of games.

We try to have our main camp in the schools summer holiday, we have in the past kept to a long weekend but this year had a successful week long camp. We have used Huish Woods near Taunton and Beaver Lodge at Parkend. We also use the local facilities; Eastwinds, which has been made less pleasant by all the trees being felled, to stop leaves falling on the adjacent railway line. Chelwood, which although fairly basic has proved us with some good camps. Woodhouse has returned to favour and we had a very good camp there this year.

We take part in most of the District events, which can be read about on other pages. We do other activities; a short walk in the first week of the new year (Winter Wander, Seasonal Saunter, Millennium Meander, January Jaunt, this next year may be the last if I can not think of another alliterative title for it). At Easter and Bonfire night we have a sleepover, which normally involves a short walk / hike. A 'Survival Camp' where the older Cubs sleep in a self constructed bivvy.

Badges are awarded to the Cubs for activities done on these outings, we also work towards other badges through the months of darkness and cold, i.e. the Summer.

Halloween and Christmas are celebrated with parties, fancy dress for preference.

The Christmas meal for the Leaders / helpers is well supported and is attended by the Leaders partners as a way of saying thanks for putting up with us.
