Special Visitor
Matt for his Chief Scouts Award, had to get the autograph of the Member of Parliament for the Stockwood area. (Bristol East) This was to be a real challenge for him as he had no idea what the Leaders were talking about.
When he contacted her about this she agreed to visit us and to be interviewed by Matt, he had watched a lot of Jeremy Paxman to get some idea of how to behave in an interview so it was going to be interesting.
Kerry McCarthy kindly took some of her precious time to visit us and explain a little about what MP's do for a living.
As her audience was between eight and ten and a half years old she had to keep it simple, our Cubs are only slightly aware of things that happen outside Stockwood. Matthew had done a good job in finding out things that our MP had done and explained that being an MP involves working long hours being away from home for long periods and travelling to far away places to help people in this country and abroad. It was also explained that in some photos of MPs they were not sleeping but listening to the small speakers in the benches behind them. She admitted that at times the grown ups in the House acted in a child like manner. ( I think that this means that they don't listen to what each other says, shout to be heard and sometimes resort to name calling. A bit like one of our Pack Nights in fact!)

A big thank you to Kerry for taking the time to visit us and to Matthew for his work as researcher, interviewer and presenter.
