The closest we could get to the real thing.
A fancy dress evening was organised with the promise of getting wet bobbing for apples to finish the night off.

We had three bases; skeletons, bats and jack o' lanterns (sort of)
The Cubs cut out the bats and skeletons and stuck the bits together to produce the required item.
The jack o' lanterns were really peppers that were used as a pumpkin substitute. The stalks were removed all the seeds taken out, the pepper turned up-side down and a series of holes cut carefully to resemble eyes, mouths etc. One or two of the Cubs didn't listen and their 'faces' were upside down. When the bottom hole of the pepper was put over a lit night-light the eyes etc showed brightly in the dark. This also filled the room with the aroma of roasting peppers.
Four teams were picked and a large deep tray filled with water and a few
apples was produced, a member of each team had to bob for the apples. Simple and
fun.

Dropping apples into the water when the Cubs moved away was also fun as the splashes were quite large.
The prizes for best costume went to Jack, sorry Count Jack-ula and Mistress Megan(2). Well done to them.
