With our new District came some new traditions, one of which is celebrating Founders Day. A chance for the Cubs to be reminded of who it was that started the Cub Scout movement and to have a party.
We provided 12 Cubs; Deanna, Breiz, Zeze, Emma,
Shannon, Megan(2), Jess, Rebecca, Joe,
Alex, Ryan and Harry. As it was a party they turned up in their party clothes,
everybody else was in uniform so apart from Ryan we were a little bit obvious.
While waiting for the Cubs to arrive the early birds were given a small Scouting related task to do, our Cubs had a go at a word search. Once everybody had arrived the Cubs were mixed up into six groups. The party started with a game, two circles were made with three groups in each. Cubs were numbered in pairs so that there were two number 1s two number 2s etc. A Cub was made to wait on the outside of the circle while a number was called and the Cubs with that number had to swap places before the gap was filled by the loose Cub from the outside. Some confusion occurred when Cubs that had been out and rejoined were unsure of their number as it had changed when they had got in. Some time three Cubs made a run and some times only one.
The Entertainment for the afternoon had set up while this had been going on, and when he was ready the Cubs sat down ready to be entertained. A bit of magic, a couple of games, a serious attempt to humiliate some of the Leaders with funny costumes and a lack of plate spinning talent, taken in good part by the three victims.

The entertainment was interrupted by a food break, the groups came up in order and received a hot dog, to avoid spillages the Leaders went round with drinks and as far as I know there were no accidents and after 'seconds' for those that wanted it, the Leaders were allowed to eat and drink.
What is good after feeding Cubs and giving them fizzy drinks? Yes a bouncy game and dancing! Again there were no accidents to some Leaders amazement. Our girls got up in front of the crowd and did a little dance to "I'm a Cheeky Girl" or similar. Most enjoyable.

The entertainment continued with the Yes/No game and a challenge between two Cubs of opposing genders with naming parts of the body, a new part to be named each time. This went on for quite a while as the body parts got smaller and smaller and more obscure. More dancing followed including "The Oki-Koki" with the put you left limb in your right limb out etc. Sixty Cubs with a couple of Leaders rushing together was a sight that will stay with me for some time.

Finally the last few dances, led by our ADC; one involved putting a hand between your legs and grabbing the hand of the following person, then dancing round the hall to finish things of a 'conga' was danced around the hall into offices outside around the car-park back into the hall. The entertainer was thanked by everybody, the Leaders wee thanked and then the Cubs went home.

Thanks to the 229th for the use of their hall and to the people who organised it, a most enjoyable afternoon.
