December 2nd

At last an opportunity to celebrate Cub Scouting's 90th birthday.

What seemed like the whole of the Bristol South District attended, well about 130 Cubs anyway. We took over a school for the afternoon.

Our Cubs arrived all 23 of them, only two Cubs missed out which was nice. All the Cubs were herded into the schools main hall and were made to dance for ages, thank you Mr D.J. Once warmed up the Cubs were entertained by Richard who wound them up even more as he does so very well. Prizes were handed out for those that deserved them, best dancers, remembering Show Themes Tunes.

The Okie-Cokie was danced followed by a Conga, (the dance not a real snake) there was also a game of "Richard Says" a bit like Simon Says but with Richard doing the saying. The last couple were very even and the difference at the end was that the winner was slightly less out of breath and didn't move as much as the other finalist when "Richard didn't say"

Ooooooh the okie kokie Conga!!!!! (Not the fish)

Lunch was then provided, a healthy mixture of items that the Cubs enjoyed. Akela showed that he has lost none of his juggling skills. Several of the Cubs indulged in a make the biggest pile of cheese and cracker and then get it into their mouth, rather disturbing how much they could fit in one mouthful.

Oh dear (I) Oh dear (II) Oh dear (III)

After lunch the Cubs were lined up in their Packs and then given a number between 1 and 9, this split the Packs up ready for the afternoons bases. These included Limbo-dancing, Surf Boarding, Garland making, Find the Key, Badge Making, Throwing balls at Coconuts and my favourite the "Eat as much of a bar of chocolate after dressing up in a large fleece, bobble hat, gloves and a scarf, using only a knife and fork, before some one else throws a six on the dice."

Then just before it was time to go we had a visit from some people from County who had been around to ALL the Avon Cub District Parties, apart from looking a little jet-lagged they looked well for the rushing around that they had done. A certificate was awarded to Jane to commemorate the occasion, this will be making it's way around the Packs over the next few months so that everyone can have the chance to see it.

As it was a birthday party there had to be a cake and although there was room for 90 candles it seemed prudent to leave them off. The cake was cut by a lucky Cub whose birthday it was and Jane so that it was done safely. Then as parents arrived to take them home the Cubs were presented with a slice of cake.

Thanks to everybody that organised and ran it the Cubs enjoyed it enormously.
