As has become traditional we have a fancy dress evening for the Cubs. The Cubs are invited to come along and join in the fun in a scary costume.
This year 17 assorted ghouls, witches, Draculas, devils, monsters and a headless body, well the head was with the body but carried separately if you see what I mean.

Two bases were set up:
Base 1 was the making of model bats, the flying mammals not the cricket variety. Black card and a design by Akela resulted in a Scutt full of flapping wings.

Base 2 was carving jack o' lanterns, well as pumpkins are time consuming to scrape out, clean and carve we gave the Cubs peppers of various hues. Despite Hathi's advice some of the first efforts were a bit disastrous with slippages causing the body of the pepper to fall apart. Still once the peppers were carved with a simple face the 'night light' candles were lit under them and the result was most pleasing and a little scary. The Scutt soon started to smell of roasting peppers.

We finished up with a game of apple bobbing. Which meant sadly that the Cubs were going to get wet. Shame. Two teams were formed and as their number was called the gallant Cub faced drowning in the tub of specially chilled water that Akela had so thoughtfully provided. Everybody ended up with a apple and a slightly cleaner face so it wasn't a bad end to the night.
The best costume for the boys was won by Count Dracula aka Matt and for the bride of Frankenstein aka Sophie. They each received a candle in a skull that the red melted wax flowed out of various holes in the skull, lovely!
The Scutt for some reason took a lot longer to clear up than normal with lots of pepper seeds, bits of bats, the odd limb and gallons of spilt water.
