After a number of team changes due to availability or rather non-availability of the original choices we finally settled on Dan 1, Dan 2, Deanna and Alex. As Akela was acting as Question Master it fell to Hathi to stand out side the HQ of the 21st Bristol Pack waiting for the four Cubs to arrive.
Prompt at 12:00 exactly two Cubs had arrived, Dan 2 with his newly invested badges sewn on overnight and Alex who has been with the Pack for a few months. Deanna arrived soon after but there was no sign of Dan 1. We had an old phone number and his home phone number was ex-directory so we could not contact him. Turns out that Akela had confused Dan's mum who had confused Dan's dad and they eventually found us just in time to start the quiz at 12:20.
We were up against some stiff opponents the 145th and a group of spectators that had been coerced into sitting in, called the "Ladies what Lunch"
So off we went; the Quiz Master explained the rules, first answers only, no bonuses, time limit for thinking and enjoy yourselves.
We scored 1 out of 4 not a good start but we could always improve
We scored 3 out of 4 this was more like it.
Occupations
We scored 3 out of 4 Now we were on a roll and starting to relax.
Numbers
We scored 0 out of 4, oh dear.
Pictures of Danger
We scored 9 out of 10. Same as 145th and one less than the adult team
Opposites
We scored 3 out of 4. Dan 1 almost made it a full house but got excited and blurted out an answer that was wrong and although he immediately corrected himself Akela being fair but firm ruled it out. Just whose side was he on?
Mental Maths
We scored 0 out of 4. The Cubs were paired up and asked very hard questions. If only Deanna had been more forceful she might have salvaged a point but she was overruled by her partner who got it wrong.
Nursery Rhymes
We scored 4 out of 4. Our Cubs obviously had a very good upbringing.
People
We scored 2 out of 4. The question about California's Governor caught us out as did King Kanute.
Tools
We scored 3 out of 4. We finished with a strong last round, would it be enough to give us victory or perhaps a high score to enable us to go through to the next round.

The final score for our brave Cubs was 28, slightly less than the 145th and a lot less than the Ladies What Lunch, who despite being handicapped by some very harsh judgements; the reply "um," then the correct answer was declined as um was the first answer given as was technically incorrect. Or an ambiguous question which automatically resulted in the wrong answer. (Example:- How many wheels does a hovercraft have? Answer (a); none or as this was the answer given the correct answer was one - the steering wheel)
Best answers included; to the question "Which famous film star has become Governor of California?" "James Bond, Hitler and Elvis" and this was after the Clues "Hasta la vista, baby" and "I'll be back" were given to them.
Not one Cub knew about King Kanute
Thanks to Akela and Simon for running the event and to Hilary and her team for the use of the HQ and dealing with the refreshments. I suppose I should say that despite the event being indoors and run for the District the sky was blue and it was lovely and warm, so thanks be to the sungod.
