Friday May 27th
Half Term started and so did our camp.
All the kit had been brought to the Scutt the previous night and was ready to be loaded onto a parents truck. Akela's and Hathi's cars were filled with last minute stuff from frozen food to wet weather activities (not that we expected to use them). The sun was shining there were fluffy white clouds as we set out for Huish Woods.
Travelling at tea-time on the Friday before a Bank Holiday was likely to be a problem but with one small exception we managed to avoid being held up. All the excitement on the M5 was to the North of us.
We arrived, hooray, unloaded and stored all the kit in the Govett Hall. Next we had to put up our new tents. We had practiced for the previous two Pack nights so we were aware of the potential problems. What we had not realised was how small the sleeping areas were or how much space would be wasted. Never mind we were on camp and set-up.
After being split into sleeping teams and having the camp and tent rules explained to them the Cubs consumed their packed tea.
While Hathi went of to get some ice-cream for Saturday tea the Cubs were given a brief tour of the campsite. When Hathi reappeared he was welcomed with a chorus of "Happy Birthday to you" from all the Cubs. The Sad old git 'enjoyed' his 50th Birthday in the previous week. There was also some prezzies, a compass, a wise gift for the directionally challenged Leader and an engraved stainless steel mug. Thanks Guys it was a lovely surprise.

The Cubs settled down to a quiz and were rewarded with some of Akela's special camp drinking chocolate. Then it was time for bed. The Cubs were sent to their tents and settled down for the night. The Leaders stayed up waiting for them to go quiet and also took some time to re-organise Saturdays activities as the timings had been changed. It was not a hard task but after signing all the camp certificates we were astonished to find it was 02:30 so we went to bed as well.
