District Christmas and New Year Party

3rd January

At Seymours Family Club

Out of the 17 Cubs that paid to come to the party only 14 turned up; Alice, Sammy, Charlotte, Georgina, Deanne, Breiz, Paris, Aimee, Charly, Ryan C, Ryan S, Shaun, Cameron and Conner. Akela, Bagheera and Hathi turned up to help out.

For unknown reasons there were only about 36 Cubs turn up from the whole District. A bit disappointing but those that went had a good time. at 14:00 hours plus a little bit the Cubs were split up into 4 teams. The members of the teams had to pick a name for themselves and chose from the menu what they wanted for tea.

The first event in the afternoons entertainment was a dance, with a prize for the best dancer, also if the Leader that had helped the team did not dance then the team were docked 20 points and as points meant prizes there was a concerted effort to get Akela(148) up and dancing with little enthusiasm. Deanna won a spot prize and 20 points for her team. Next the Leaders had to get on stage and lead the Cubs, in their teams, in the song about 'Pizza Huts, Kentucky Fried Chickens and McDonalds to Akela's disgust his team came last so he resolved not to take any further part and save the team from more suffering.

Akela says do this . . .

Second event was a version of a game we know as compass. There were four bases, Port, Starboard, Boats and Guns, added to this was Captain's Aboard where a salute had to be made, incoming meant diving to the floor and something else meant feet had to be raised from the floor. This was a fast action packed game as the orders came thick and fast, Port, Guns, Captain, Incoming shouted with machine gun rapidity. The last Cub or Leader would get a prize (Calendar). This made one or two pulses race with the running about. Akela was excused this one as it was felt that he might have a problem keeping up.

Then more dancing with more points being awarded to good dancers, A member of staff took the Cubs off in a long conga through the rest of the building getting faster and faster as they went along. Some more dancing with Sammy taking a lead on stage was followed with the half time scores: muppets led with 70, followed by joint second arsenal and misfits with prince's and princess's bringing up the rear with 10.

Question 1 is . . . more questions
who is scooty Colours of power rangers?

After the meal that was enjoyed by the Cubs there was a quiz, a quiet time to let the food go down. Questions about Teletubbies, Power Rangers and the favourite colours of the Tweenies. A couple of questions about songs in films including the correct spelling of the song from Mary Poppins with the very long name. some of the answers were over 30 letters long.

Then my favourite - Karaoke. The four teams all had a chance for more points, naturally the Leaders were penalised if they did not take part. The songs were "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Bob The Builder", "Sk8ter Boi" and finally "Sleeping With The Light On" The watching Cubs got so excited that they joined in with the songs rather than just listen or try to put the singers off.

There had been a lot of balloons around at the start of the afternoon and luckily there were just enough left to play the last games with. Tunnel balloon while holding a balloon between the knees was first with the balloon having to go over the heads of the team first as there was not enough room under the Cubs. There was a little confusion when it was discovered that one team was loosing because it had one Cub more than any of the others. This was corrected by the Leaders joining in again.

miss me out it's quicker

Hathi made another contentious judging decision by awarding a spot prize to the muppets as they danced in a little troupe with their leader kermit. a nice display of synchronised syncopation.

The finals scores were;

4th        85points    prince's and princess's
3rd     147points    misfits
2nd    192points    muppets
1st     194points    arsenal

Sammy, Ryan C and Charlotte were our representatives in this team and they each got a calendar and a small cash prize.

the winners

The parents had by now turned up and took their slightly tired offspring away. Our Cubs were seen of with the reminder that the following day would be our Perennial Perambulation. We shall see how many turn up.

Thanks to the staff at Seymours who did their usual excellent effort, to Simon (ADC) for getting the times right this year. Thanks to the Leaders that turned up and joined in.
