1st Feb @ Knowle
The Annual Chess and drafts competition was held in bright sunshine, while the rest of the UK shivered in snowy conditions. Akela did not even mention the weather as we met for this event. Just a knowing wink to the people that know.
Our Team consisted of Ben and Dan for chess and Jess and a Cub who did not turn up, no names but Ross will be spoken to on Wednesday.

The Packs that did turn up, were soon organised and 32 Cubs commenced 'battle'. Our gallant team did not start too well as Jess and Ben lost their first games. Dan had started well with a win. Sadly apart from Ben forcing a draw in his next game we maintained a 100% losing record.
Despite this the three Cubs maintained a sense of proportion and kept any disappointment well hidden, even claiming to have enjoyed themselves. Jess was surprised to find herself the only female contestant and Hathi remarked to another Leader that it would be humiliating to be beaten by her, not because she was a 'girlie' but because she had lost all her games so far. (This would come back to haunt him later)
The Cubs that did not get into the second part of the competition had a go at the "Connect 4" competition. We were no better at this than the main event. Ben managed to get to the second round but then lost.

To round off the day the Cubs used Hathi's camera to take some photos of their friends and also to record the game between Jess and Hathi, Modesty forces me not to reveal the result. But it was close and gave Jess something to be happy about. I just hope she keeps quiet about it on the next Pack night.
A big thank-you you Simon, our new ADC (Cubs), for his first competition in charge. His tea making needs some work though <g> Also thanks to his team of helpers who made the event the success it was.
