Quiz Semi Finals

16th March

This was held at the HQ of the 256th. There was three heats with the winner from each going onto the Final. So we did not need a huge score we just had to win. Our Team of Steph, Alex (c), Dan and Becky were very smart in their full uniform, a credit to the Pack. We were in the last heat, up against the 21st and the 127th. Akela was out Beaveree-ing, Hathi was late as he had been called out to do some work so the Cubs parents were there to make sure everything was above board. When Hathi did arrive after missing the first couple of rounds was informed that we were doing well and that Tuesday Cubs had been knocked out earlier, shame.

The round that was being marked as Hathi arrived was compass points. Despite our games of run to the compass point the team managed a couple of wrong answers, all the letters were there but not in the correct order e.g. NEE instead of ENE. Still we did at least as well or better than the other teams.

Our hopes rose with the mental math's round, this time it involved starting times, travel times and the teams had to work out the arrival time, Alex was good at this and would have picked up lots of bonus points if they had been available.

The cross-word round was next and we finished first and with all correct answers.

Half time scores were 21st - 24, 127th - 26 and 148 - 32

Multiple answered questions were next and we pulled further ahead as full marks were scored.

Geography was next and we only dropped a single point. One of the other Packs thought that "The Cape of Good Golly" sounded more correct than "The Cape of Good Hope" and why not, I'm sure sailors have called it much worse things as they passed by.

The next round was a team effort with words being hidden on a clock face and had to be de-coded by clues about the positions of the hands at certain times. Sounds much more complicated than it was as we finished minutes before the others, and another full mark.

"What is it?" was next and some interesting replies, what is metal and cooked in required the answer a pot or saucepan not an oven, which seemed a little harsh, but the other teams guessed right so there can be no complaints.

Lastly a chance to really score some points, a sheet with the alphabet on it was given to each team and they had to match Activity Badges with each letter. for example A - Artist,  etc. Our team being very sharp and put down Athletes Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3, similarly with the swimmers badges. They were disappointed that this was only counted as one Badge.

The final scores 127th - 51, 21st - 57 and 148th - 68. We had won.

The final will be held at the 82nd HQ in a few weeks, the other teams will be 256th and 82nd. They scored 68 and 69 so it promises to be a fascinating final. More news when it happens.
