23rd February
Held this year at our HQ as the 82nd Hall has had an aquatic adventure and was unavailable. Akela and Abi had arrived early to set up the tables and chairs and prepare the first of many cups of coffee, tea and squash. Hathi had a lie in and arrived in time to see Tuesday Cubs finish their heat with a score of 71, a target for our Cubs.

Our team consisted of Dan, Steph 1, Alex and Becky. We were in the same heat as the 127th and the 145th. There were ten rounds.
Round 1 Sports. All morning Cubs had been saying that Vinny Jones had been a Tennis player. Our heat provided the correct answer, footballer at Wimbledon, not at the All England Club up the road. Alex and Steph got some awkward questions and guessed incorrectly.
Round 2 Food All our Cubs were correct in this round and morale was high.
Round 3 Maps and Cities. A map of mainland Britain was given to each team and places had to be pinpointed, We got 9 out of 12 for this and were well pleased. One pack who will remain nameless as I can not remember its name put John o' Groats in East Anglia. Two points were awarded for close and a single point if in the correct area.
Round 4 A Mixed bag. Paired Cubs were given questions with multiple choice answers on a variety of subjects. We did very well with full marks.
Round 5 Mental Arithmetic. Again Cubs in pairs. This is the one we had been waiting for our super star captain Alex was a wizard at these. Angela (ADC Cubs) asked the question twice and as she finished the question Alex's hand would go up. There were no bonuses but it put a lot of pressure on the other teams. He answered a few 'bonus' questions and was correct every time, he had the good grace to check with Steph before giving their answer when it got to their question. We managed full marks for this round as well.
Half time score 127th had 29 - 145th had 23 - 148th had 29. All to play for.
Round 6 Spelling. Hathi was extremely glad that he was not involved in this round as he depends almost completely on the Spell Checker for these reports. Twenty words spelt four different ways with only one correct spelling. We did really well with 13 out of 20.
Round 7 Animals. A full complement of points for this round, it was getting too easy.
Round 8 Nursery Rhymes. Down to earth with a bump, only Becky managed to get hers right. The other teams did slightly better than us so the pressure was back on.
Round 9 A team round. A piece of paper with a rucksack drawn on it with various items packed into it. The Cubs had to cross out the 'wrong' things and add an item that could be useful. Full marks for this.
Round 10 Television and Films. Fantastic final round the Cubs picked up full marks with everybody getting the correct answer.
A tense wait while Wendy counted up the scores, 127th had 72, the 145th had 64 and we had 74, we had won our heat and beaten Tuesday Cubs. We go through to the next round in a few weeks time. A report of which will appear here.
Thanks to the Cubs that turned up to Angela and Wendy for
running it, to Akela and Abi for the biscuits and drinks. While we in the Hall
the wind blew the sun shone we had snow and the wind blew some more, Akela's
rule as 'sun god' might be in for a bashing this year.
