District Chess and Draughts

2nd February

Our team was Levi, Tom (Draughts), Ben and Dan (Chess).

Our Team

Ten Packs were represented in this event, although our targets were not to excessive, if we beat Tuesday Cubs then we would be happy otherwise we only wanted to have fun. If all failed we could try and win the 'Connect Four' competition.

For a reason that was not apparent Ben and Dan were placed in the same qualifying group. Tom and Levi were in separate groups for the Draughts.

Hathi joined Ben and Dan in their group to see how they did, Ben had to sit out the the first match as there was five Cubs in the group. Hathi took him on in a warm-up game and  managed to beat him quite easily. This would set up a match with one of the other Cubs later. Dan managed to beat two of his opponents but Ben after being crushed by Hathi managed to win none of his games. The Cub who won the group challenged Hathi to a game and he was  extremely lucky that the Cub was called away to get a drink and prepare for the quarter finals as Hathi's game was being systematically taken apart.

Our Draughts team also had mixed results, Tom managed to win at least one game but did not get any further as he was in a tough group, Levi did us proud. The only girl Cub in the event she managed to get through to the quarter finals but came up against a really strong player and proceeded no further.

The Connect Four was organised by our Akela, who found that Cubs when asked their name mumbled and whispered. Naturally our four Cubs were brilliant but did not make the finals.

Connect Four

Thanks to everybody that organised and helped on the day, the Cubs enjoyed it and as we were indoors Akela's sun god properties were not needed.

Oh yes Tuesday Cubs did better than we did, again. Well done to them.
