St. Georges Day Parade

Our ColoursOn Sunday April 21st we joined the other groups in South East Bristol District to celebrate Saint Georges Day. This year it was the turn of Brislington School to provide the location. We were not going to parade on the local streets as we had done in years before as the Police would not provide an escort. The number of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders that turned out meant that two halls had to be used to accommodate everybody.

The service started with a hymn Praise My Soul The King Of Heaven, during this the colours of all the Sections were brought in, ours carried by Dan, followed by a prayer. Then a reading from The Gospel according to John (Chapter 6 vs. 5 - 13) The feeding of the five thousand and the miracle of the loaves and fishes. The next hymn was When I Needed a Neighbour. The Address was next. The Scout Hymn was next and after that everybody took the opportunity to reaffirm their promise as the Laws and promises of all the sections were read out. The closing hymn was One more Step Along The Road I Go. A closing prayer was followed by the National Anthem when all the colours were returned to their sections

We all trouped out into the spring sunshine to wait for the other hall to finish. As we could not parade on the road we had a mini parade on the school playground. All the practice we had done on the previous Wednesday had not been wasted. Two people were awarded something but with the wind behind us the words of the people on the dais were lost to us at the back of the parade.

The youngsters were a credit to their sections and themselves. Our contribution to the event were, Akela, Abi, Hathi, Dan, Lauren, Georgia, both Stephs, Becky 2, Ryan, Nicole, Levi, both Toms, Ella and Ben, well done to them all.
